At Star Prairie Veterinary Clinic, we understand that pet loss, whether expected or very sudden, is a tragic event. Planning the care of your pet’s remains after death can be an overwhelming task. If home burial is not an option for you, we offer pet cremation services through a reputable, licensed and compassionate company.
Pet Cremation Services Available
Cremation is a process in which a special kind of furnace is used to generate extreme heat (1500-1600 degrees Fahrenheit), evaporating the body to reduce it to its basic elements, which are called cremains. Although commonly called ashes, the cremains are in fact bone fragments reduced in size to a sand-like state.
There are two different types of cremation available:
Your pet is placed alone in the cremation chamber, and when the process is complete, the cremains are removed. They are placed in a sealed plastic bag, put into a temporary container and returned to our clinic. When you pick up the container, you will also receive an official document stating the authenticity of your pet's cremains.
Your pet is cremated along with a number of other pets, and the cremains are not separated. No container is returned to you, and the cremains are buried off site.
Because we form special bonds with our pets, it is only natural that some of us may want to respect and remember our favorite companion's devotion. Cremation allows you to bury or scatter some of your pet's ashes in a favorite place, frequently with a memorial such as a tree or garden stone. Others may choose to transfer the cremains to an urn or appropriate container that can be moved from place to place.
